$500,000 in Youth Violence Prevention Funds Available

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has announced the availability of fiscal year 2004 funds for Youth Violence Prevention Through Community-Level Change. In an effort to focus on community level intervention, CDC will award two grants of up to $500,000 to evaluate community interventions to reduce youth violence. The ultimate goal is to assess whether interventions designed to change community structures and social processes can reduce rates of youth violence.

At a minimum, applicants will need to provide a theoretical rationale and empirical evidence in support of the specific intervention proposed and should include a plan for a rigorous evaluation of the intervention. Interested community coalitions should have one or more partners with significant experience running programs related to community-level change and youth violence. In addition, applicants may want to include a college or university partner to serve as the principal investigator.

The deadline for the letter of intent is January 2, 2004, and the application deadline is February 17, 2004.
