DCF TO OFFER PROVIDER TRAINING
The Department of Children and Families will begin its Provider Training in February. "Advancing Accountability - Best Practices for Contract and Grant Management" is being offered to providers; specifically recipients and sub-recipients of state and federal financial assistance. The training program was developed to help non-state entities perform and document program and fiscal requirements of their projects in a manner that ensures accountability over state resources and prevent delays in payments. Key managers and other staff responsible for establishing organizational policies and procedures for the administration of agreements with the State should attend.

All trainings will take place in Tallahassee from 9 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. at the Betty Easley Conference Center, 4075 Esplanade Way, Tallahassee, Florida 32399. Participants may choose one of the following training dates: February 23, March 23, April 20, May 25, June 22, July 27, August 24, September 28, and October 26, 2005.

Please be advised that registration is first come, first served with 35 seats available for each training. An added feature to this year's training is four (4) hours of continuing education credits will be offered to CPAs (technical business).

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) announces availability of FY 2004 funds for Youth Transition into the Workplace Grants. One of SAMHSA's Science to Service Grants, Youth Transition into the Workplace Grants will document and evaluate innovative
practices that provide substance abuse prevention and early intervention programs for younger employees ages 16-24.

Update on Prevention Partnership Grant
The Department of Children and Families has updated its timeframes for the grants. Letters of Intent to Submit a Proposal are due April 30, 2004; the bidder's video teleconference is May 11, 2004; and, proposals are now due May 27, 2004. Updates to the Department's website will be posted every two weeks, or sooner if necessary, to notify prospective vendors of significant changes to the Schedule of Events, inquiries, and amendments to the RFP. Click on that link to get to the official advertisement. This site will have another link to all the files that make up the RFP that you can download.
Please note: The RFP has NOT been cancelled. Corrections had to be made to the first and second release of the RFP so both of them had to be "cancelled". The third release is complete and correct and the RFP No. is now: 1RFP03H04FP1.

$500,000 in Youth Violence Prevention Funds Available
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has announced the availability of fiscal year 2004 funds for Youth Violence Prevention Through Community-Level Change. In an effort to focus on community level intervention, CDC will award two grants of up to $500,000 to evaluate community interventions to reduce youth violence. The ultimate goal is to assess whether interventions designed to change community structures and social processes can reduce rates of youth violence.
